Birth Of The Soviet Union
The Soviet Union emerged in 1917, when the Bolsheviks overthrew the Russian czar. They took the territory that once belonged to the Russian empire. It was ruled by the Communist party, who commanded dedication of all Russian citizens. Joseph Stalin became the leader of the Soviet Union in 1924. He took over the economy and administered all industrial activity, even established collective farms. Stalin also control every aspect of the citizens social and political lives. People that were against Stalin were arrested and sent to labor camps or killed. When Stalin died in 1953, Soviet leaders denounced his policies but the Communist Party was still in power.
